FNUS21 KWNS 271650 FWDDY1 Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1149 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025 Valid 271700Z - 281200Z ...Central High Plains... Strong mid-level west winds across the central Rockies and a strengthening lee trough over the central High Plains is still expected to support enhanced downslope winds of 15-25 mph and drying along the Colorado Front Range through the afternoon. RH reductions during peak afternoon heating and boundary layer mixing of 15-20% will be common and as low as 10% in some locations. The breezy and dry conditions along with drier fuels/cured grasses will promote an elevated fire weather threat. Some modifications were made to previous Elevated highlights based on latest forecast guidance and observations. ..Williams.. 10/27/2025 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1241 AM CDT Mon Oct 27 2025/ ...Synopsis... A strong mid-level jet will be present across the central Rockies today. A lee trough extending from a surface low in the northern Plains will drive strong downslope winds in parts of the High Plains. Behind the upper trough, a surface high will build into the Northwest and Great Basin, especially toward Tuesday morning. ...Central High Plains... Surface winds of 15-25 mph can be expected behind the lee trough. Higher wind gusts will also be possible. RH with northward extent is somewhat uncertain, but areas within the Front Range have potential to have 15-20% during the afternoon. Given the relative lack of precipitation in the vicinity of northeast Colorado, fuels will support elevated fire weather concerns. ...Southern California... Offshore winds will likely begin sometime this morning and steadily intensify through the day into Tuesday morning. RH reductions during the period do not appear overly large. Furthermore, area fuels are not sufficiently dry to support significant fire weather concerns. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... $$
