Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from

03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and

from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following

information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,

radar, and meteorological analysis.



Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through

2100 UTC.



...TROPICAL WAVES...



The axis of a tropical wave is near 83W, north of 03N, moving 

westward at 10 to 15 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the 

ITCZ/Monsoon Trough section below.



The axis of a tropical wave is near 102W, north of 02N, moving 

westward at 10 to 15 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the 

ITCZ/Monsoon Trough section below.



The axis of a tropical wave is near 123W, moving westward at 

around 5 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the ITCZ/Monsoon 

Trough section below.



The axis of a tropical wave is near 135W/136W, from 02N to 19N, 

moving westward at 10 kt. Nearby convection is discussed in the 

ITCZ/Monsoon Trough section below.



...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...



The monsoon trough extends from 09N78W to 05N85W to 08N95W to 

05N115W to 07N120W. The ITCZ extends from 10N137W to 09N140W. 

Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is noted from 

03N to 12N east of 100W, and from 10N to 15N between 115W and 

120W.



...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...



Moderate to fresh winds prevail over the Gulf of California, with

slight seas. Moderate or weaker winds, and moderate seas, prevail

over the open waters off Mexico. 



For the forecast, fresh to strong gap winds and building seas 

are expected across the Gulf of Tehuantepec starting tonight, and

persisting into the weekend. Elsewhere, a moderate pressure 

gradient will support mostly gentle to moderate winds across the 

offshore waters of Mexico. Looking ahead, lower pressure over the

Colorado River Valley will support fresh southerly winds across 

the northern Gulf of California Sun and Mon.



...OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, 

AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...



Moderate to fresh winds and moderate seas prevail over and 

downstream the Gulf of Papagayo. Gentle to moderate winds are 

found between the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. Light to gentle 

winds and moderate seas are noted elsewhere. 



For the forecast, fresh to strong gap winds and occasional rough

seas will pulse across the Gulf of Papagayo into early next 

week. Moderate or weaker winds and moderate seas in SW swell are 

expected across the remainder of the waters through the period. 



...REMAINDER OF THE AREA...



A recent scatterometer satellite pass indicate a large area of

fresh NE winds on the northern end of the tropical wave along

135W. Seas are estimated to be approaching 8 ft in the area of

fresh winds. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate winds and moderate 

seas prevail across the discussion waters.



For the forecast, seas to 8 ft will accompany the tropical wave 

along 135W, as it moves westward through Thu night. Farther

south, southerly swell to 8 ft will move into the waters south of

05N and west of 100W through the latter part of the week.
